Chippendale® was bred by Hans Jürgen Evers at Rosen Tantau, in Germany, in 2005 and was introduced onto the Australian market by Knight’s Roses in 2010.
Chippendale® is a very attractive, eye-catching rose, growing into a well-shaped, strong and robust bush, (1m x 1m), with healthy glossy foliage. It is registered as a Shrub Rose but resembles the growth habit of a Floribunda with flowers produced in small clusters delivering masses of large blooms readily throughout the long growing season from spring to autumn. As the flower opens it reveals very fragrant quartered blooms featuring a strong, sweet, fruity perfume.
The colour of the blooms vary from rich dark apricot to orange peachy pink which gives this rose a unique look. The cupped-shaped flowers (41+ petals) are old fashioned and quartered following the trend and nostalgic style created by European rose breeders from the 1990s onwards, including Rosen Tantau who bred this rose.
This rose is especially useful in a variety of landscaping situations – its excellent repeat flowering means it would look amazing in a hedge planting, in garden beds or it will perform well in a large container.
Available from Knights Roses, Newman’s Nursery and Wagner’s Rose Nursery.

Floribunda
Soul Sister was bred by Christian Bedard in the United States in 2008. It was introduced in the United States by Weeks in 2012 as 'Koko Loco'. This rose was released in Australia in 2015 as ‘Soul Sister’ by Swane's Nurseries as Agent for Weeks.
Soul Sister is a magnificent Floribunda with classic high pointed shaped blooms and a light scent, borne both singularly and in small clusters. The colour is very unusual, starting with bronze chocolate brown buds opening to a café latte colour fading to a soft lavender pink blend.
A healthy, well rounded bush, this rose grows to 1.5m high and 1.2m wide with semi glossy, medium green foliage. It is a very easy bush to grow and manage and benefits from continual picking and deadheading. Prolific flowering throughout the growing season makes this a very popular rose and flowers seem to last for a long time on the bush.
This delightful rose makes an ideal gift for a special friend who is your “Sister” in spirit or reality, and of course for yourself.
A highly recommended and beautiful rose, especially for those who like something a little different.
Available from Wagner’s Rose Nursery, Newman’s Nursery, Swane’s Nurseries, Treloar Roses, Silkies Rose Farm and Garden Express.

‘Diana, Princess of Wales’ is a particularly beautiful rose, a fitting rose in keeping with its namesake. The rose was bred by the American rose breeder Keith Zary and released in 1998. (Parentage - Anne Morrow Lindbergh X Sheer Elegance).
Known in some countries as Diana and Elegant Lady, Diana, Princess of Wales is a Hybrid Tea rose with blooms being a pleasant blend of pinks and creams. In warmer climates and as the bloom ages the pink colouration darkens. Roses come on long stems with classic Hybrid Tea form, making it ideal as a cut flower. The flowers have a petal count of up to 40 and reach 12 centimetres across. They are mainly borne as a solitary bloom per stem. The fragrance is classified as moderate with a mild sweet tea scent.
Diana, Princess of Wales can be used as a specimen plant in the garden. Its upright vigorous growth produces a well branched bush up to 1.65m in height. The rose has glossy green foliage and hooked prickles 6-8 mm in length.
The flowers and healthy, disease resistant, glossy green foliage make for a great cut flower. The rose provides a succession of flushes throughout the growing season.
After the death of the Princess of Wales in 1997, this rose was chosen after a worldwide search and given the name ‘Diana, Princess of Wales’ and approved as a charity rose on behalf of the Estate of Diana, Princess of Wales “to help disadvantaged people in poor and war-torn communities around the world” with part proceeds to “The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund” to carry on her humanitarian charitable work. The Fund closed at the end of 2012.

Pepita™ was bred by Tim Hermann Kordes through the crossing of the outstanding pink rose, ‘The Fairy’ with an unknown seedling. It was registered in 2006 and is part of Kordes’ LILIPUTS collection of miniature roses.
Pepita is a beautiful pink miniature rose with the reverse being a slightly deeper colour. The intense pink blooms make a statement in their clusters of up to eight and the usually magnificent spike of blooms cap new shoots. As the bloom fades, the colour changes to a soft pink. The flower has over 45 tiny petals and is cupped shape initially which becomes flat as the bloom matures. It blooms in regular flushes throughout the season and carries a mild fragrance.
The flowers provide a contrast to the matching miniature dark green, very glossy foliage. Pepita is a compact upright bushy plant growing to 50 centimetres.
As a winner from the ADR stringent trials in Germany, where no sprays are allowed, it can be guaranteed that Pepita is a healthy, free flowering and disease resistant rose. This ensures that gardeners can plant with confidence a reliable miniature rose which will provide years of satisfaction and joy.
Pepita is ideal for growing in tubs, pots, plant boxes and border planting of flower beds. Pepita is available from Treloar Roses.

‘Blue For You’ was bred by amateur rose breeder Peter J. James in the United Kingdom in 2001 and was introduced in 2007. In France, it was named ‘Pacific Blue’. The rose attracted a lot of interest because blue is a much sought after colour in horticulture.

This free-flowering rose features medium-sized, semi-double flowers that begin showing rich purple mauve, fading to a slate blue, with a white centre and silver reverse. The long buds open to reveal golden stamens and a sweet fragrance.
A modern Floribunda, it blooms over a long period and produces clusters of flowers on a very healthy, bushy plant growing to 90cm tall with lush, glossy foliage. Remove the spent blooms to encourage re-blooming.
It can be used for garden beds, borders, hedges and is suitable for growing in pots.

‘Merry Maker’ was bred by Kordes of Germany and introduced in Australia in 2008. Named in Australia for the ‘Merry Makers Australia’ dance group for people with disabilities.
Although classified as a Floribunda, Merry Maker demonstrates the habit of a low Shrub. It makes a wonderful plant to grow at the edge of a bed of roses or could be grown as a low hedge. It grows 50cm x 50cm in size with the occasional water shoot taller. The leaves are small, glossy and very disease resistant.
Merry Maker blooms almost continuously throughout late spring to late autumn. The blooms are 5cm in size with an apricot, peach to pink colour. The blooms are borne in small heads typical of a Floribunda, with the occasional large head producing up to 50 blooms on the one main stem. Typical of many ground cover type low shrub roses, the blooms have no fragrance.
Although classified as a Floribunda, ‘Merry Maker’ was entered into the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia trials as a Ground Cover. It won the award for Best Ground Cover in that year (2008).
For gardeners looking for a small rose with blooms that have interesting changing colour tones and continuous flowering, I can highly recommend ‘Merry Maker’.

English Shrub Rose
(Ausmerchant)
'Princess Alexandra of Kent' was introduced in 2007 by David Austin Roses in the UK. The large, bright pink flowers are full-petalled (about 130 petals) and deeply cupped. The flowers are produced in clusters of 3 or 4 per stem, on a well-shaped vigorous bush. There is a delightful intense fresh Tea fragrance, which changes to a lemon scent as the flower ages.
The bush grows well, usually reaching 1.25m x 1.25m, with mid-green, healthy foliage and good repeat flowering. It is suitable for garden beds, containers and hedges and is often used in mixed borders to create a ‘cottage garden’ effect. A good vase life makes this rose perfect for cutting.
David C.H. Austin OBE (1926-2018) will be remembered for his lifetime of dedicated and imaginative rose breeding. David Austin English Shrub Roses combine the delicate flowers and rich scent of Old-World Roses with the repeat-flowering, disease resistance and wide colour range of Modern Roses. Since being introduced into Australia in the 1980s, these roses have thrived and demonstrated that they are reliable, hardy and well suited to our climate. The collection now has over 200 cultivars, with many achieving international acclaim.
Named for Princess Alexandra of Kent – a keen gardener and great lover of roses. The Princess and Queen Elizabeth II are first cousins.
